APSC cash-for-job scam: Three more accused arrested by the police
Spearheading investigation into the Assam Public Service Commission's cash-for-job scam, the police have, reportedly, arrested three more accused of the scam including a BJP leader and a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).

Sources of the investigating agencies revealed that Kavita Das, an Assam Police Service (APS) officer posted as Deputy Superintendent of Police at chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal's home district Dibrugarh, was arrested last night apart from district level BPJ leader Sailen Sarma Barua and a broker identified as Surajit Chodhury.

BJP leader Barua, a practicing lawyer, is also the party vice-president of Darrang district. The arrested broker has been identified as the husband of Pallavi Sharma Chodhury, also an accused in the job scam who was arrested a couple of days earlier.

With the arrest of these three accused the total number of arrests in the scam has risen to 66. The police had last week arrested 19 gazetted officers including the daughter of BJP Lok Sabha MP from Tezpur Ram Prasad Sharma for their alleged involvement in the scam.

It has been learnt that DSP Das, who had been appointed in 2016, despite turning an approver in the case, still could not get pardon from arrest. Sources revealed that some more accused would be arrested soon. The APSC cash-for-job scam was unearthed two years ago.
