Ardee City, Gurgaon, goes without water and electricity for 24 hours: Residents protest
Residents of Ardee City protested today with banners and shouted slogans against the Ardee City Management. Calling this a necessary steps, around 200 residents present at the protest said that this step had to be taken as the management were deaf to their grievances and were not taking any actions or giving them any facility, for which they are paying much more than other gated communities. When on the day of holi, there was no electricity supply for over 24 hours followed by no water, no fridge, no inverter and water purifier, then the residents thought that it is a high time that they speak up for their rights and hence the protest was organised.

On 24 March, the protesters assembled at a common point and all the people voiced their opinions and grievances in front of the Ardee Management Office near Gate 1 and the situation was getting out of hand. Talking about the protest, resident and a vocal citizen Manisha Seam said, ''We are really disturbed with the way management has not given us our fundamental rights to cleanliness, security and electricity. People have reached their limits and wants immediate actions to be taken.'' Talking about the police support, Seam said, ''police tried to contain the situation but was more aggressive towards residents rather than the actual perpetrators( ardee mgmt) being inconvenienced inspite of residents assuring a peaceful protest and basic right to question authorities who have not delivered on promises for years together.''

Explaining further, she added, ''The police were there to support us and not to manhandle the residents of the colony. But we saw them protecting the mgmt and cordoning off the office premises using force to prevent us and delaying us from voicing our concerns/issues . Thankfully, seven people were called and we placed our grievances in front of the members of the management.'' Anil Hasija, a member of the management were among the others who did not give any straight answer to the residents. The Vice President of Ardee City Residents Welfare Association (RWA) Arvind Sharma said, ''They asked us to meet the Director of Ardee City, Shefali Verma on 27 March. If she arrives, then I see the possibility of some solution, but as of now I am not that sure.''

Sharing their grievances with us, Sharma talked about how the management refused to carry out the maintenance work in accordance with an agreement reached with the residents in August 2013 for which they had raised the maintenance charges from Rs 225 to Rs 1350 per flat per month.

This monthly collection comes over to over Rs 30lacs. The fund collected had not resulted in any visible improvement in services such as better roads, stringent security systems, water supply, hygienic and clean surroundings of public areas etc, which are part of the increased charges. The management has also refused to act on multiple complaints filed over last 6 months and years before by the residents repeatedly. Sharma also said that last month there were theft in 3 houses in a day and yet the security remains lax to this day.

We tried to establish contact with the management but to no success.
