Prior to 1975, it used to take 14 years of studies to complete the graduation. The scheme of education was often called 10+1+3 pattern of education. It was in 1975, that the government introduced the new pattern of education, 10+2+3, which took at least 15 years of education to complete the graduation.
NOW, IT is in the air that Delhi University (DU) administration is trying to negotiate with the teachers’ association over increasing the tenure of graduation from three to four years from 2013.
DU has circulated a proposal to its teachers to make graduation courses of four-year duration with a rider. But, Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) is opposing the proposal.
It is reportedly said that DU administration's proposal of biometric attendance system for teachers will be withdrawn if teachers allowed the administration to implement the educational reform of four-year-graduation.
The University Grants Commission has directed teachers to should spend at least five hours a day in their institutions or departments. This led to mooting the proposal of biometric attendance system on part of the administration. On the other hand, DUTA has been opposing the biometric attendance system calling it insulting and restrictive.
