Our democratic setup as we are witnessing these days is conceived and run on the above lines in letter and spirit. The people in power have totally Hegelian bent of mind. They presume that they are in unquestionable power to rule the country.
"THE ESSENTIAL characteristic of an authoritarian society is that the state ranks higher than the individual in the scale of social values. Only through subordinating himself to the state can the individual achieve his goals and develop his attributes as a civilized man. The state has a certain amount of caretaker function and the individual has a degree of dependent status. Furthermore, individual within the authoritarian state differ greatly in status.”

The philosopher of this thought, Hegel, ridiculed the democratic belief that “all should participate in the business of the state” In an authoritarian state, there is sharp distinction between leaders and followers. Only a few are cast in the role of leadership. Sometimes they are believed to be in their high position because of divine selection and sometimes they are there because of what is believed to be their superior intellect, wisdom or experience.
In any case, always in an authoritarian state a man or a few are in position to lead and be obeyed. These are rulers or advisers to rulers, and they stand at the apex of the power which they think is unquestionable.” Our political leaders are in fact subverting democracy by choking the democratic voices raised against the big vice of corruption. All the ministers and the parliament members who have been so far caught in the cases of corruption were elected by the same electorate as Kapil Sibal and Pranab Mukherjee or P Chidambarm.Unless Supreme Court came into action, the democratically elected ruling party was shielding these Ministers under the same pretext as they are putting forward to curb the voices of dissent. Does electing a member to parliament mean to give him /her unlimited and unchecked authority to misrule this country? Are genuine concerns raised by the members of civil society posing great threat to government? Or is it that only those people can raise voices and launch all types of armed terrorist and civil agitations against the state who have a divisive plan to further divide this country into pieces.Government goes out of its way sending all types of its emissaries to cajole and communicate with them. The people who are sitting for a genuine Bill to be drafted against corruption are branded on daily basis in different colours.Government has at no stage come close to the expectations of the people, which elected it to power. Government lost a great deal of time in shielding the 2G spectrum corruption fiasco and the Asian Games culprits. It did not act in time on any crucial issue. It is now trying to delay even drafting a genuine Lokpal Bill. Instead of concentrating on the drafting of the bill it has chosen to malign the private members of the committee in more than one way. It looks ill intended to go against the culprits of black money and corruption. No argument put forth by the government spokespersons makes it convincing in the eyes of the people of India to believe that the Sonia Gandhi lead UPA Government is sincere in its act against corruption and black money.
