WORK CULTURE has gone through a tremendous change. Corporate world is getting extremely competitive and aggressive day by day. Everyone is striving to be on the top at any cost. However, the point is that are you doing all the right things to achieve your goals?

Most of us feel that just doing what we are being told to do would be enough. Unfortunately, today it is not only about meeting your set targets, but also putting in some extra effort. Now that’s up to you how you do it.  Everyone wants to perform better than the others. But the million dollar question is how do you do that extra something. Someone told me that it is imperative to get noticed. Now my question is how can you get noticed? Doesn’t your performance get you noticed? The answer, to my surprise, was no.

I was told that to grow in any organization, two things are very important – accountability and loving your company. Yes the second bit sounds like a dialogue from a Karan Johan film! So accountability means being responsible and taking charge of situation i.e. you need to possess some leadership skills. The term leadership has several definitions. You will not only be accountable but also have to make people like you and believe in you. Well, that’s a tricky task. Supposingly, you have somehow managed to achieve that, then you’d think you are prepared to move up in hierarchy, but the answer is no.

While I am trying to make people like me, I will have to simultaneously build a good rapport with my supervisor. I am sure most of us might have been told during our inductions that we need to speak your hearts out. That’s not what someone who wants to grow in a company needs to do. If you are straightforward, you cannot survive in corporate world. In a nutshell, you should be diplomatic and know when to speak what. Now this whole process would also include buttering your seniors and agreeing to what they say. If they think that a cat is a dog, you will have to simply agree without uttering a word. There is a thin line between buttering and being diplomatic. But if you have the amalgamation of these qualities, no one can stop you from reaching your desired position.

All of this may sound one-sided. However, this isn’t my opinion. Someone who told me has definitely applied these methods to grow. It is for sure that if you follow the above tactics in a subtle way, you would unquestionably grow in your organization.
