Argentina hosts "2nd Global Disability Summit", Indian delegation headed by Union Minister Thaawarchand Gehlot participates
According to a release, the Government of Argentina Republic, the International Alliance Disability (IDA) and the Latin American Network of Non-Governmental Organizations of Persons with Disabilities and their Families (RIADIS) are hosting the "2nd Global Disability Summit" in Buenos Aires from June 6 to 8. The objective of the summit is to deliberate on issues across the world concerning empowerment and inclusion of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) and to work out a mechanism for enabling them to live an independent and dignified life.

According to GOI release, a delegation headed by Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Thaawarchand  Gehlot, and comprising Secretary, DEPwD,  Shankutala Gamlin, Joint Secretary, DEPwD, Dr Prabodh Seth and Neeraj Semwal, Private Secretary to Union Minister are going to participate in the Summit. The delegation will also participate in the bilateral discussions with Government of Argentina for developing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two countries on 9-10 June 2019. 

The '1st Global Disability Summit' was held in London in July 2018. The Summit attendees included various country governments; multilateral agencies (organisations like the UN and the World Bank, who are funded by multiple governments;  civil society organisations including community groups, charities and non-governmental organisations and the  private sector organisations. 

According to IDA, the Summit represents an opportunity to reflect on the formulation and strengthening of public policies and good practices in the different discussion panels, with the voices of people with disabilities to be at the forefront. The Summit will also be an opportunity to share, consolidate the contribution of Latin America to this global space of exchange and reiterate commitments made in the Latin America region for the rights of persons with disabilities.
