Art Linkletter hosted the popular TV shows "People Are Funny" and "House Party" in the 1950s and 1960s. Linkletter was famous for interviewing children on House Party and Kids Say the Darndest Things, which led to a successful series of books quoting children.
Art Linkletter debuted on radio as a host in 1944 from "House Party" and then moved to television, where it ran from 1952 to 1969. He was also one of the fathers of modern reality TV with his People Are Funny, an audience participation quiz show that began on NBC in1954. On that show contestants were chosen from the studio audience to complete challenges or perform wacky stunts.
Linkletter was born in Moose Jaw, Canada, in 1912. He married Lois Foerster on November 25, 1935 and they had five children. His marriage was one of the longest running marriages in Hollywood history.
In 2005, Art Linkletter opened the Happiest Homecoming on Earth celebrations for the 50th anniversary of Disneyland. When Disneyland opened in July 17, 1955, he commentated on the opening day celebrations. Linkletter was named a Disney Legend in 2005.
