IT WAS a stunning Thursday, when all the hang-out places of Delhi were deserted. All the crowd was at a single place to witness the nearly two weeks long closing affairs of XIX Commonwealth Games 2010. Commonwealth Games closing ceremony took place at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
Almost 7,000 domestic and international artists, performed to a good round of applause from the 60,000 crowd during the closing ceremony of Delhi Commonwealth Games. "Unity and solidarity" were the theme for the closing ceremony of this mega event.
Over 2,000 school children performed on Vande Mataram and added patriotic fervour to the ceremony. About 800 performers from different states of the country, displayed their skills in martial arts of India. This segment was named Agni. Shooter Gagan Narang, who won four gold medals for India, was the flag-bearer during the Commonwealth Games closing ceremony.
Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, his wife Gursharan Kaur, Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, who was the Guest of honour of the closing ceremony, Vice President Hamid Ansari, Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, Union Sport Minister K.P.S.Gill, senior BJP leader L.K.Advani, were among other dignitaries present at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium during the Commonwealth Games closing ceremony.

For the sixth consecutive time Australia topped the medal tally with 74 golds and 177 medals overall. India performed exceptionally well and won 101 medals including 38 golds and finished at second spot. It was the best performance ever by India in any mega sports event.
