THE COMMONWEALTH Games 2010 not only proved India's capability to host mega events. This time sports persons of the host country won total 101 medals and finished second after Australia amongst all other participating countries. The Indian contingent clearly displayed its winning and fighting streak throughout the twelve days when the Games were being played.
The story of Indians clinching medals during the Commonwealth Games has an interesting history attached to it. The journey started in 1934 during the second edition of the Commonwealth Games when India won a bronze medal and in the latest edition India finally crossed 100 marks in the medal tally. Incidentally, it is also for the first time India stood tall at second position. The country won 10 medals in 1966, 16 medals in 1982 and 49 medals in the 2006 in Melbourne Commonwealth Games.
