Artie Lange attempted suicide, stabbed himself
The Howard Stern Show co-host Artie Lange was hospitalized on Saturday after stabbing himself nine times. Lange's mother called 911 after entering his Hoboken apartment and finding the blood-stained comedian Saturday morning.

AMERICAN ACTOR, comedian, radio personality and author Artie Lange was hospitalized on Saturday January 2, after stabbing  himself nine times, according to reports. Lange's hospitalization reportedly occurred after the comedian reportedly stabbed himself nine times in an apparent suicide attempt. According to a law enforcement source, Lange's mother called 911 after entering his Hoboken apartment and finding the blood stained comedian Saturday morning.
 
The Howard Stern Show, a radio programme on Sirius XM radio, co-host Artie Lange, who was also an original cast member of the sketch comedy TV series Mad TV, has been absent from the radio show for over a month. Surgeons however managed to save the 42-year-old comedian.
 
Hoboken Police Detective Mark Competello said Artie Lange was unconscious but breathing after stabbing himself with a 13-inch Wolfgang Puck kitchen knife. Lange was taken to Jersey City Medical Center. Competello said doctors cleaned nine abdominal knife wounds and operated. Despite heavy bleeding, surgeons managed to save Lange's life.
 
Last year Lange made a controversial appearance on HBO's Joe Buck Live and made several obscene and derogatory comments directed towards homosexuals and even to Joe Buck himself. Artie Lange soon after the show was aired, apologized for his behavior. The incident made TIME list of Top 10 Awkward Moments of 2009.
