Like Arundhati Roy, initially and still people have sympathy for them as they are recognised as the tribals and poor people. But now, with their regular heinous acts of killing innocent people, Maoists have lost all rights to sympathy.
SHOULD we call Arundhati Roy’s very own people, Maoists? What explanation she is going to give on terrorism? She should know that if terrorism is violent and ill-legitimate thing which terrorises the nation from outside then Maoism is something which engulfs the country from the inside. Like Arundhati Roy, initially and still some sections of society have sympathy for them as they are recognised as the tribals and poor people without any resources to live. But now, with their regular heinous acts of killing innocent people, Maoists have lost all rights of sympathy. Had terrorists from outside hit the bus or killed 76 police personnel in Dhantewada or attack train, then it would have become an international incident and headlines. Surely, Arundhati Roy will not support this as she does not support violence. But, here she is doing more hue and cries to save these Naxalites.
Now, her latest statement for continuing support Maoists arm struggle even if she is put behind bars is merely popularity symbol. She talks about human rights of Maoists, where are innocent people’s rights, who are killed by the same Maoists? Don’t civilians have rights to live? It is noticeable that she wants to be in the limelight.
In general, the condemnation is that she is immature about the politics of the Maoists. She is supporting their battle without identifying the limitation of their viewpoint, attitude and methods. Nevertheless, whatever the weakness of Roy’s style, she has used her celebrity status to champion in a broken manner and pushing country in backward foot. Instead of forcing these issues into the entrepreneur media, she should be more concern on Maoists’ attitude.
