As Deputy Secretary I couldn't own a car but a Head Constable could
When Vijay Kumar Malhotra lost the re-election to the Lok Sabha from the former Sadar constituency, people were very happy. They were saying that it was a good riddance since Mr. Malhotra does not make any recommendations.

My friend who comes from that constituency stated that Mr. Malhotra was no good as he could not recommend the name of his son for a job. On the other hand, whenever Madan Lal Khurana won, people were very happy. They stated that he was always available for making recommendations.

Our present Prime Minister Manmohan Singh could not win Lok Sabha elections because he stated that his only plus point was that he was an honest man. Generally, I have seen that only corrupt people with few exceptions are elected to Lok Sabha and even state assemblies. Even a corrupt Yeddyurappa could win the elections to Karnataka assembly.

I had been an honest babu and retired as deputy secretary but could not make enough money for paying a handsome dowry. So, I was not able to get a good match for my daughter. On the other hand, assistant engineers in MTNL in my neighbourhood who were much junior in rank to me amassed so much wealth by taking bribes that they were able to find best matches for their daughters as they were able to pay the desired dowry.

I was not able to own a car during my career but a head constable whom I knew owned a car and was much more respected than me. Naturally, a person with a personal car commands more respect than a person who travels by a bus. He could take his family to best restaurants for lunch and dinner but I could never afford such a luxury. If a head constable could afford all such luxuries, naturally a police inspector would be having much more money and commanding much more respect.

I could never become a member of any club as the cost of membership was too prohibitive but an inspector in customs was a member of a posh club, and took me there as a great favour to me. He commanded much more respect although he was too junior in rank to me.

To sum up, corruption is also spreading because our society honours corrupt people because they have money which makes the mare go.
