Asaram Bapu: a typical example of India's godmen
In the holy land of India, where the Ganges and Yamuna are considered sacred, it goes without saying that there exists a number of temples making India one of the most religious countries in the world. But, in the name of religion, there are a number of so called 'god-man', who take advantage of their position in India as respectable person- supposed to be free of all form of evils and provide a helping hand to the downtrodden.

But, the reality is different with the so called godmen of India, as it has been exposed by the non-godly act of self-styled godman, Asaram Bapu.  The popular spititual Hindu leader has been booked recently for an alleged rape on a minor girl. The girl, as reported by India Today alleged that she was asked to perform oral sex, which she refused. It has been stated that Bapu removed her shirt and touched her as well.

The incident itself raises a nauseated repulsion against such fake religius leaders. But, what makes the condition worse is the fact that politicians are using this case to gain brownie points. To make matters worse, Asaram Bapu has not been arrested so far even after the girl narrated the incident to the police risking her dignity and safety. If the culprit is not arrested soon, the girl, who had been threatened will live in constant fear and will never report about such cases to police. This failure may also act as a deterrent to other women in the society as well, to report about the various form of discrimination, which takes place amongst women in our society.

With the backing up of some political parties, Bapu is taking this to his advantage and stating that the allegation of the girl is not true and considers to have been cooked up by some elements. One would like to know as to which elements is he referring to. The writing is clear on the wall – he is the culprit. Even if the law or his influential personality fails to put him behind the bars, the truth cannot be hidden.

The only good news in midst of the darkness is the godman has received a summon from the police today. Whether this is a hogwash to divert media attention from the case or whether the authorties woke up to the criminal offense is something the nation is yet to understand. The common man in the country never knows, how law will take its course as it has proved to dance to the whims and fancies of the powerful.

This episode brings into light about the appalling condition of India, where rapes are increasing every single day. It was only last week that the Mumbai gangrape took place, putting the nation on hold. When one would think that Delhi gangrape may have changed men and their attitude towards men, such kind of incidents only makes us wonder- when will men improve or will they ever?

But, this is not the first time that the godman has been involved in a controversy. In 2009, a complain was filed against him for an attempt to murder of another guru. He also created stir, when he stated that the 'girl is guilty as the rapists' in the December 2012 Delhi gangrape case. So, such controversies are nothing new to Bapu. But this rape case involving a minor should be taken seriously, else the number of other godmen committing such crimes will only increase.
