Assam Government decides to form State Disaster Response Force
The government of Assam has decided to form a State Disaster Response Force on the lines of the National Disaster Response Force that will help in rescue operations during natural or man-made calamities.

THE HOME department of the Government of Assam has decided to form a new force namely State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) in the state to meet natural and manmade disasters. The process of appointment of officers and jawans for the proposed force has already been started. The force will be ready for action in the middle of the next year. The force will be formed as a state force like National Disaster Response Force. The force will be attached with State Fire Service Organisation, Assam.

The Additional Director General of Police cum the Director of State Fire Service will be the supervisor of the State Disaster Response Force. In the initial stage two companies of the force will be in existence. One company of the force will be deployed in Guwahati, the capital city of the state and the other will be deployed in Barak valley. 
A full battalion of the force will be in existence very soon. The force will be ready for rescue and relief operations during natural disasters such as earthquake, flood, landslide and man-made disasters such as bomb blast, road accident, and fire etc. Special training for rescue and relief operations will be imparted to officers and jawans of the State Disaster Response Force.
