The situation in Assam is similar to what happens in the north Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. Various militant set-ups have been operating in the terrorism-affected state, and often police and the army recover large amount of arms and ammunition from them and their hideouts. Once they are tallied and marked, automatic weapons and explosives are absorbed within the police and other defence organizations after following a due-deligence process.
