Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh likely to be held in February
Most of the parties were of the view that in March-April the state will witness board exams and then it would be the harvest season, which will collide with the elections. Then comes the intense heat wave, which makes electioneering a Herculean task.

AFTER LEADERS of all the major political parties in Uttar Pradesh conveyed their message and request to the chief election commissioner (CEC), S Y Quraishi, for conducting the assembly elections in the month of February, the Election Commission too, taking a cue from it, has decided to put a ban on all the transfers of officers in the state from September 29 which is being looked upon as a big hint that now elections to constitute the next Vidhan Sabha will be held in the month of February.

Most of the parties were of the view that in March-April the state witness board exams, and then it would be the harvest season, which will collide with the elections. Then comes the intense heat wave and that makes electioneering a Herculean task for the candidates and voters as well.

So considering all these aspects, the Election Commission has hinted for holding assembly elections in the month of February in Uttar Pradesh. The preparations are on in full swing and the parties too, are releasing the list of candidates for the constituencies so that they can get ample time to prepare for the polls and can start doing canvassing in their respected areas at the earliest now.

The election panel has banned transfer of all officers falling under the category of IAS/IPS/PCS/PPS this included all district collectors, additional district magistrates, sub-divisional magistrates, tehsildars, block development officers and booth-level officers from September 29 to January 2, 2012.

The election commission will also undertake the work of electoral roll revision from Sept 29 in the state. The voters registration drive will be carried out on October 9,16 and 23 and new voters’ names will also be included in the list which would be prepared on January 1.
