Aster Medcity will be commissioned by October 2013: Dr. Azad Moopen
With world-class infrastructure and top-notch technology, Aster Medcity, strategically located at Kochi will give a new fillip to medical tourism in Kerala as well as in India.

THE FIRST phase of Aster Medcity in Kochi will be commissioned by October 2013, announced DM Healthcare chairman Dr. Azad Moopen. “Aster Medcity, the ambitious project of Dubai-based DM Healthcare, will be a milestone in the annals of healthcare industry in India as it fosters the economy in various ways. In addition to this, Aster Medcity will boost Medical Tourism in India,” Dr. Moopen said in a press release.

He added that the group is investing Rs 500 crores for the Aster Medicity, Rs. 250 crores for Wayanad Medical College and WIMS Hospital and Rs 100 crore for a 200-bed multispecialty hospital in Kannur presently. For the second phase of Medcity and expansion plans of MIMS (Malabar Institute of Medical Sciences), the group will pump Rs. 1,200 Crores.

By providing world-class infrastructure and top-notch technology, Aster Medcity which is coming up in a sprawling 38-acre land on the banks of Periyar River in Kochi, will boost medical tourism in India as well as in Kerala.

Envisaged as a township of healthy living, first phase comprises a hospital of 550 beds, six excellence centers, 500-seater medical convention centre, accommodation for medical and paramedical staff, four-star hotel and serviced apartments and a top-class residential development with an expected population of 10,000. The second phase will house another 500 beds and three more centres of excellence.

“Aster Medcity shall offer tertiary to quaternary care facilities in almost all medical and surgical specialties. We will be offering specialized treatments in oncology and cancer treatment, radio diagnosis, robotics, minimally invasive procedures, organ transplantation at affordable prices,” Dr. Moopen explained.

Aster Medcity will be a one-stop solution not only in healthcare but also in health education.   Apart from offering cutting-edge medical services and accommodation facilities, Aster Medcity will act as a Knowledge Café, thus playing a vital role in disseminating quality medical education in the country. By setting up another example, the Aster Medcity has been giving an extra care to protect environment. The Medcity has successfully implemented rainwater harvesting system.
