ATM frauds on the rise: Take precautions to avoid getting scammed
ATM frauds are increasing by the day and banks along with the police are yet to devise a way to stop 'ATM thieves'. Till the time things are tightened, it is best to follow some rules so that we do not face any problems while carrying out ATM transactions.

ATM FRAUDS are on the rise and it is not only celebrities who are facing the problem as the thieves rob everyone they can deceive. Recently, in Bangalore Rs.75000 was spent by fraudsters from two debit cards that belonged to software engineers. With this case the total number of registered ATM scam cases has climbed to nine in the city. Police are baffled as to who is behind the rise in the ATM scams and they are trying to figure out a way to stop these people.

As reported in danindia.com, the joint commissioner, Bangalore, B Dayananda, said that the people involved in the fraud are using a magnetic device and then cloning the card to withdraw money. He also blamed the banks for not taking necessary measures and curbing these kinds of recurring incidents. It is a failure on the part of the police that other unsolved cases of robbery via ATM cards are still unsolved. But banks are also to be blamed as many ATMs are noticed to be without a guard - making it easier for criminals to carry out fraud.

As they say better be safe than sorry, people using ATMs should also be aware and take precautions. The most basic thing that a person should do is frequent an ATM that is in a safe locality. The machine should be in a place that is not overly crowded or deserted. Extremes of any kind normally attract the attention of such kind of criminals.

The second kind of precaution, which everyone should take is not talk over the phone while withdrawing money. One needs to be alert while withdrawing money and it is better to not be multitasking as it can be costly.

While punching in the code one should always use only one hand and with the other cover the number pad so no one can guess the numbers you are pressing or see the hand movement. While many of us might think how can anyone remember the number by hand movement then you need to know that scammers are experts who have sharp memory so this would not be very difficult for them.

The most precaution is never write the security code of your ATM card anywhere as it is best to memorise it. People, often in order to remember the code, keep their birthday, car registration number as their ATM code. Refrain from doing that and keep a number that's vague or unrelated to you. The last thing, which one should not do is take someone with you inside the ATM to shied oneself from prying eyes..
