ATS chief killed, commandos brought in to control situation
ATS chief Hemant Karkare is reported to have died in the encounter. Top Mumbai cop Vijay Salaskar is also reported to have been killed at Taj hotel even as authorities pressed into service naval commandos to neutralise the terrorists.

A HUGE EXPLOSION took place on the top dome of the Taj hotel which was engulfed in fire, while gunshots were heard around 1.24 am. Explosions were also heard at the Oberoi hotel in South Mumbai, where terrorists are reported to have truck, but the reports are still unconfirmed.
 
Latest report said that Anti-terrorist Squad chief Hemant Karkare, who was injured in the attack is said to be no more. Mumbai’s top encounter specialist Vijay Salaskar is also reported to have been killed at the Taj hotel during the attack.
 
Home Minister Shivraj Patil in Mumbai said that it was an unfortunate attack and the union government was in touch with state authorities in this regard. Patil said that four or five people were killed whereas in Oberoi also same numbers of people were killed.
 
Meanwhile, two teams of fifteen navy commandos have been called to end the hostage situation at Mumbai’s Oberoi hotel. Authorities said that highly trained naval commandos are being pressed into service to neutralise the terrorists, who are holed up in the two hotels.
 
Latest reports also said that firing and explosions were reported at Ramada hotel, JW Marriot and some other places.
 
Sources said that this is a meticulous and planned attack in which terrorists brazenly shot at people as well as the policemen, who were chased by the terrorists.
