While speaking with reporters in Melbourne, tournament director Craig Tiley was quoted saying by Hindustan Times that the organisation is proud of the fact that their prize money, $26 million (USD 25 million) prize money pool, is the biggest in the history of the sport. He further stated that they have led the way the past four years in terms of prize money, and will continue doing so, and the administration knows that the players are appreciative of it.
However, apart from the money pool, other attractions at the Australian Open 2012 will be Martina Hingis, who makes her comeback at the legend’s event. Contrary to reports that surfaced, a confirmation is yet to be received about Hingis playing mixed doubles with fellow country man Roger Federer, a move for stepping up their chances of winning an Olympic medal at the upcoming 2012 London Olympics.
