Auto Expo 2018: The iconic Hyundai Santro makes a comeback with a facelift
Hyundai India has been planning to bring back its popular hatchback, Santro, in the domestic market. It is to be noted that the car was first launched in the year 1998, and since then, the pulled a lot of buyers to the company.

However, the car was discontinued in 2014 so as to make way for other products from the company's stable like Grand i10 and Elite i10.

Hyundai Santro is expected to get relaunched in India by November 2018. The company has given it a premium position in its product line-up, which means it will compete against the Tata Tiago and Chevrolet Beat.

Here are brief details about the car which has been given a new lease of life by Hyundai:

Exterior design

Going by the images that have surfaced online, the Hyundai Santro 2018 continues to flaunt its tallboy appearance but with more attractive look. The car is expected to share the company's latest Fluidic 2.0 design, which is already seen on the i10, another product from the South Korean auto maker. The important changes that could be seen with naked eyes is the new radiator grille at the front that gives a perfect look to the new car. In addition, there is a slightly tweaked headlight with DRLs, black coloured bumper and a sculpted bonnet. The 2018 Santro is expected to sport new alloy wheels, unlike the previous model. At the rear, one major change is the newly designed tail lights.

Interior and features

As you enter the car, you get a more spacious cabin with a new dashboard that will enlighten your mood completely. The new hatchback offers a number of features like a touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity in the top-end variants. Thanks to the large window panel that the occupants can definitely have a smooth ride with utmost comfort.

The all-new Santro is equipped with modern features, which make it a premium car in the segment. Apart from the power windows and air-conditioning system, the car also offers multi-information display and height adjustable seats. Moreover, to assure the safety of the occupants, the entry-level hatchback gets ABS (anti-lock braking system) and dual frontal airbags as well.

Engine, Transmission and Mileage

The Hyundai Santro 2018 is expected to come in two gasoline engine options, the 0.8-litre engine and the 1.1-litre unit. The two petrol engines will come paired with a five-speed manual gearbox. On the mileage part, the new Santro is expected to offer a 22 km ride in just one litre of fuel.

Interestingly, very few people are aware of the fact that the Hyundai Santro had been offered with an AMT variant as an option way back in 2003. The automatic transmission is expected to be offered this time around as well. If AMT is offered, the all-new Santro will definitely take on the upcoming clutch-free cars in the market.

The Hyundai Santro was a successful venture by the manufacturer, yet the facelift is designed keeping the likes of the young buyers in mind as the new version gets a host of new features apart from the budget-friendly price tag. The car is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 3 lakh to Rs 6 lakh across all variants.
