FOOTBALL TEAM Portsmouth is going to get a new manager soon. The tram's Chief Executive, Peter Storrie has announced that he has chosen Avram Grant would be filling in the position left vacant after the last manager Paul Hart was dismissed.
Avram Grant, an Israeli, would take up charge with the game on Saturday, November 28, that the team has against Manchester United. However, due to certain issues regarding his work permit, he would take the team to the field in the official capacity of the club's Director of Football.
Peter Storrie confirmed this. He said,"Avram is taking charge of the team as director of football. He will be appointed as (the manager) and when he receives a change to his work permit – they are the rules and regulations in this country. He's not the manager yet – but will become it, which we hope will be next week."
The embargo on the club is not helping either. Last month, the team was hit with an embargo by the Premier League, due to certain unpaid transfer fee and has working towards resolving that issue. They expect that it would be lifted in time for them to sign up Avram Grant officially, when it lifts in January.
Grant has his work cut out for him. In January the team may suffer a loss of upto six members, at the time of the African Cup of Nations. He said,"The squad is good enough to take us from the bottom but we need some players that can improve the team and, with the African Cup, we will think about this."
Avram Grant has been with the Portsmouth earlier too. He was the Director of Football for the team in 2006-07 and believes that keeping the team in the Premier League would be an interesting challenge. "I did the job when I came in 2006 – it was good for me and the club, I enjoyed it very much. I came to help the club and I'm happy to do it also now. I need to do a good job because the team are not in a good position. I love this club".
