Baba Ramdev's Patanjali to refrain from advertising during IPL 2018
Yoga guru Baba Ramdev's Patanjali brand has decided to keep itself aloof from the upcoming season 11 of the India Premier League, since its feels that cricket, especially IPL is a "foreigner's game".

Patanjali's Chief Executive Acharya Balakrishna told ET, "The sport (in this case, IPL) as it is, promotes consumerism and is sponsored by multinationals. Patanjali will invest in sports which are Indian and promote Indian sports at the grassroots such as wresting and kabaddi."

India Premier League (IPL) 2018, world's richest cricket league begins from April 7, 2018. Patanjali has today become one of India's biggest FMCG brands with an annual publicity budget of Rs 570-600 crore.

In the past, Patanjali has associated itself with a few sports events. Early last year, Patanjali had sponsored Pro Wrestling League and also the Kabbadi World Cup two years back.

However, Patanjali, which toes the swadeshi line and markets its indigenously developed Ayurvedic consumer and health products, it seems has no interest in the cash-rich cricket league which is the most followed sports tournament of the country.
