In her first wrestling bout after the release of the biopic Dangal, which traces the journey of the Phogat family, Babita Kumari Phogat greatly disappointed the crowds assembled at the KD Jadhav Indoor Stadium on Wednesday.
A team member of the UP Dangal team of the league, Babita was pinned down by her opponent, former world and European champion Sofia Mattsson in mere 46 seconds. Her team lost 5-2 to Haryana Hammers in the 53 kg category.
Mattsson had taken a 4-0 lead within just 30 seconds of commencement of the game. She later clinched the game after another 16 seconds to register a fourth win out of the seven games for her team. Mattsson had also won a bronze at the Rio Olympics.
"Bibita Kumari looked a little rusty and was slow to start. Even before the 2014 Commonwealth gold medalist could think, she was down on the mat. On the other hand the Swedish wrestler kept her calm and composure in the do-or-die clash.
Haryana Hammers, who had won the toss, registered their second win. The focus now shifts on the big encounter of the league between Rio Olympics bronze medallist Sakshi Malik and Babita's sister Geeta Phogat. The match is scheduled for the latter part of the league.
