A 10-DAY-OLD baby, who was suffering from a rare heart disorder, with his heart protruding from his chest was operated successfully at All Indian Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) in Delhi on Thursday (September 3). A team of AIIMS doctors created space between the chest and the abdomen of the baby to place the heart there in a rare surgery.
Another highlight of the operation is that this is the first time such kind of operation has been performed without suspending the body functions of the patient.
Doctors said that next few hours were very critical for the baby and they were closely monitoring the recovery.
The operation can be termed a big achievement for the doctors as they managed to operate the baby while the heart was beating. Earlier, the doctors had planned to suspend the bodily functions of the baby for about 30 minutes but they later opted for the conventional method.
