Badrinath Shrine registers more visitors
This year, the gates of the Badrinath Shrine were opened on May 1. However, the number of people reaching the shrine has only recently begun to pick up. The Dham chief says the low number of visitors was mainly due to the Lok Sabha elections.

THE PILGRIMAGE to Badrinath Dham is at its peak. Local businessmen have started doing brisk business after keeping their shops shut for a period of six months. However, compared to last year, fewer pilgrims are arriving at Badrinath in the initial period. It is only in the past few weeks that the Badrinath temple committee has been recording brisk income with an increasing number of pilgrims reaching the Badrinath shrine.

In the current year, about 4,10,405 persons arrived in Badrinath resulting in an income of Rs2.074 crore, for the shrine
committee. All factors remaining constant, the temple committee expects an increase in the number of pilgrims arriving in Badrinath in the coming period. This year, the gates of the temple of Bhagwan Badari Vishal were opened on May 1. The number of pilgrims stabilized in the last week of May, resulting in relief and income for local traders in the area.

Badrinath Dham, Deputy CEO, Jagdamba Prasad Namburi, said that as in earlier seasons, the number of pilgrims arriving in the initial period after the opening of the temple gates was low, chiefly due to the Lok Sabha elections being held at the same time. As soon as the Lok Sabha elections were completed, there was an increase in the number of pilgrims arriving in Badrinath.

It is pertinent to mention that last year, the gates of Badrinath temple were opened on May 8. During the first month of its reopening, 4,25,756 persons arrived in Badarinath, resulting in an income of Rs 2.39 crore for the temple committee.
