IT WAS really a day of feeling proud for Bahadurgarh town, located on the border of Haryana and Delhi, as one of its sons, Yunus, son of Mohammad Nazir, who does a private job in a factory, brought laurels to the industrial town by bagging the 80th position in the civil services examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).
Yunus completed his basic studies from Govt Senior Secondary School, Bahadurgarh, and then moved to Delhi for pursuing higher study. He got his Post Graduate Degree in Bio-Chemistry degree from Delhi University and joined the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) for carrying out research in Bio-Chemistry. Yunus said it was his second attempt in the civil service examinations. Earlier, in 2008, he had passed the IAS preliminary and main examinations, but could not clear the interview. “Notwithstanding having been unsuccessful in the first attempt, I did not lose my confidence and started preparation for the next examination with more devotion and enthusiasm. Consequently, decent amount of hard work and blessings of my family, friends and the Almighty is all what it took to clear the exams,” said Yunus, a resident of Dayanand Nagar, Bahadurgarh. He disclosed that he had to face lot of difficulties when his academic documents went missing after availing the first chance to civil services in 2008. Following this, he could not appear in the next civil services exams. Beaming with excitement at the outcome, Yunus said “Loads of hard work and lots of patience is the key to success, nothing succeeds like success. One should take every attempt seriously and put his/her best foot forward.” Yunus belongs to a middle class family. His mother is a retired teacher while his elder sister is a lecturer in Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra and his younger brother has been engaged with a private company.
