NANOFICATION OF the Bajaj is on the offing. The Bajaj auto in alliance with Renault-Nissan has agreed to price the ultra low cost car at Rs 1.1 lakh ($2,500). After the much hyped launch of Lakh Rs car by Tata Motors last year, this is going to next big launch hype.
The pricing USP pays its dividend in marketing, but it doesn't help in long run specially if the product is not designed well. Fire incidents of Nano have dented the image of the car, hope this will not be the case with Baja's mini car.
“In India, Renault and Nissan are developing an ultra low-cost vehicle with the Bajaj group, benefiting from its experience in light vehicles and knowledge of Indian market. We are aiming for a price of $2,500,” Renault president and CEO Carlos Ghosn said.
While Bajaj was focusing on high mileage and low maintenance while Renault was focusing on low price. This car's expected launch has been postponed to 2012. As per agreement the design engineering sourcing and manufacturing will be handled by Bajaj Auto while marketing and selling will be done by the Renault-Nissan alliance. As per sources car will be smaller than Maruti Suzuki's Alto. The entry of another low price car will definitely heat up the competition in this segment.
