Ban on Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) extended
The central government has extended the ban imposed on Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI). Explaining the extension, the government said that banned SIMI continues to be a threat to India.

THE CENTRAL Government vide a notification (No- SO-224 (E) Dated 03/02/2012) has declared the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) as an unlawful association under the provisions of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.

As per the notification, the outfit has been indulging in activities, which are prejudicial to the security of the country, and these activities have the potential of disturbing peace and communal harmony and disrupting the secular fabric of the country.

The outfit, allegedly found to be involved in several anti-national activities, has been banned for the sixth time since September, 2001.

As per the central government, if the unlawful activities of the SIMI are not curbed and controlled immediately, it will continue its subversive activities and re-organize its activists who are still absconding; disrupt the secular fabric of the country by polluting the minds of the people by creating communal disharmony; propagate anti-national sentiments; escalate secessionism by supporting militancy; and undertake activities which are prejudicial to the integrity and security of the country.

Apparently it seems unfair to ban a student body. But the kind of people actually behind SIMI, they shud not only be banned but prosecuted too.
