A Banana peel was thrown at a black player, Wayne Simmonds during a match between Detroit Red Wings and Philadelphia Flyers in an exhibition match at London. The incident has led to many players expressing their discomfort about it in Twitter.
SPORTS SUCH as Ice Hockey, American football, Basketball etc have always seen black players and white players in the court or field playing against one another. The crowd present during the matches are always mixed, (black and white race), but we have hardly seen the crowd throwing various things on courts or the field in the US, especially. It is very rare, if it happens too.
But, when an Ice Hockey exhibition game was played at London between Detroit Red Wings and Philadelphia Flyers, a banana peel was thrown at Wayne Simmonds,( black player), which was not taken in light spirit by anyone, as he was a black player. Had it been a white player the story may not have become so big, but it has indeed turned out to be a big one now.

The incident took place when Simmonds was heading for an overtime shootout goal, thankfully, the banana peel did not distract him much as he was successful in scoring a goal. There were huge reactions in Twitter after the incident took place. Several high profiled players did not like the incident at all and were full of anger too, as it was witnessed in the tweets that these players put up on their profiles. England does not have a good record as far as their crowd are concerned in various sports, especially football. There have been numerous occasions, when some football fans have been banned for their behaviour during the football match. But, it is very rare when we hear that an Ice hockey fan to be involved in such act of throwing a banana peel on a player in London, which has brought out racism on the forefront.
