THE 36-hour bandh called on December 15, 2009, by the United Democratic People’s Front (UDPF) in demand of a separate state for the Bodo community and the 24 hours bandh by the All Assam Kush Rajbonshi Student Union (AAKRSU) passed off peacefully at Gossaigaon with no report of any violence in the sub-division.
Shops and business establishments remained closed, bus services were off, even the government offices were shut down. NH-31 was seen to be deserted and around 1450 (10 wheelers) vehicles came to halt at the Srirampur Border Composite Check-gate during the bandh period.
The most adverse affects of the bandh were witnessed by the school students as they had to go to their examination centres for appearing their examinations, despite failure of transportation and those who earn their livelihood on regular basis were found in miserable condition. The trade and commerce of the town also witnessed a negative graph. No untoward activities had taken place in the sub-division.
