Bangles add elegance to beauty
Bangles have survived all tests of time. Their vibrant colours, patterns, musical jingle, tinkling sound and traditional value have ensured that reason they have remained an all time accessory for women.

KARVACHAUTH IS on the cards, so the markets of the city are also brimming with a wide variety of bangles. Red, green, blue, yellow, gold-lined, silver-edged, bright and attractive, embroidered, lace work, glass work – there is a plethora of choices available for the festive occasion. These are loved not only by the women wearing traditional dresses but also the girls clad in western outfits.

Karvachauth is an occasion when every Hindu woman would purchase bangles, not only for themselves but, also to gift to other married women.
 
“After taking Sargi in the morning, we offer prayers and wear bangles as a shagun. A day before Karvachauth we exchange bangles with other married women living close by. There is also a custom of sending bangles and certain other items like sindoor, red ribbon, kajal etc to relatives. It’s a way of sharing happiness,” says Radhika Dhawan, a women working as a designer.
 
Then whether it is the marriage season or some other festive season, bangles are always in demand and are worn by women from every religion.
 
"Bangles add to the beauty. This is the most suited and the most chosen ornament, which is preferred with all sorts of the traditional dresses. In the present time, there are ornaments to decorate each and every part of the body, but still bangles add to the elegance and the beauty. Traditionally bangles are considered a blessing and every married women loves to wear it," Kalpana Bakhri, a teacher working in the ETT college.
 
"There is no compulsion that bangles have to be worn with traditional dress only, now there is whole range of bangles, including bracelets, which could be worn with western outfits too”, she adds.
 
Even traders dealing in bangles these days are making easy dough as festive season certainly sees an increase in their sale.
 
"This is the festival month and so we have added a whole new range of designer bangles especially with gem and bead work. Bangles though are in demand throughout the year, but this increases now. They have survived the test of time, even though their colours, patterns or traditional value may change," Nika Ram, a wholesaler dealing in bangles and other related accessories.
 
"With the passage of time, the women's love for bangles has not changed. What has changed is the choice for the same. Now there is a large variety of designer bangles in the market. Women do not have to restrict themselves to simple glass bangles, there are gold or silver bangles, metal bangles, wooden karas, plastic bangles, bracelets , lac bangles, beaded, stone, conch, terracotta, pearl as well as those studded with gems and precious stones," he adds.
