Banks and ATMs' security not up to mark; upgradation is need of hour
ATMs and bank branches are opened everywhere for the convenience of the customers and as policy matter. But, 90% of them lack proper requisite security cover. What is the use of having only CCTV or a private security guard not properly equipped to meet any emergency threat?

At ATM's there should be a mechanism that as soon as a customer enters inside, and till he/she comes out the locking arrangement should be such that another person cannot make access inside.

If there is a provision to insert card and open the door from outside, in the same way a provision should be made available from inside also to come out. The person who is outside, if he/she tries to enter inside by using the card, the lock should not open till the person inside comes out.

Each and every ATM should be compulsorily manned with security guard properly equipped with communication facility connected with the local police and necessary arms to meet the emergency. The police patrolling party should sign the visit book placed in ATMs at least every 2/3 hours.

If the banks cannot provide such minimum security measures at their ATMs, then as an alternate policy, cash swiping machines should be provided on application to selected super markets and other place with a limit of cash withdrawal during their hours of working.

The swiping machines should have the system of prepaid mobiles. Once the withdrawal limit is reached in the machine, the owner should register for recharge. The cards of particular banking group or bank can withdraw from the particular machines provided with these applicants by the banks.

If such and some more measures are taken by the concerned ministries both in the center and state, the ATM / Bank crimes in terms of loss of public money  and life can be brought down drastically.

The security guards' recruitment should be done through the Central Industrial Security Force or a specialised force for the banking sector should constituted Their personnel can be deployed in the nationalized banks and a their ATMs and the private sector should be asked to use their services for the proper security cover of bank's customers and its assets. These measures will also help in employment generation.

I hope the concern ministries and banking sector will address and resolve the customer grievance on priority basis.
