According to a study, Obama became the most watched leader on Twitter. Given the fact that he is constantly on Twitter with some tweets and because of his job, people around the globe keep an eye on what he has to say.
The first African American President of America, according to the same study, also tweeted the most popular tweet that said, “Same-sex couples should be able to get married,” reported NDTV website. He is also among the top five most popular people. The reason that people so closely follow this leader is for the fact that he tweets a lot. According to PR firm 99 percent of the world's leaders have never replied to any tweet and the same applies with Obama. He is found among the bottom as he never replies and has the least communication with other world leaders.
The study pointed out that Obama is following only two other leaders - Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. Among other things that the study pointed out was the fact that there is only the Estonian President Toomas Ilves who sweared on Twitter. It was a reply to economist Paul Krugman and he said, “Let's sh *t on East Europeans: their English is bad, won't respond & actually do what they've agreed to & reelect govts that are responsible.” Inspite of the rosy picture, there is a teeny weeny fact that out of the 5000 tweets that Barack Obama sent out, only eight bore the signature of 'OB'. Well! We cannot expect him to do social networking when he has other important issues to handle.
The study did not say anything about Indian politicians, given the fact that very few actually feel that it is fast encroaching on our lives and must be embraced rather than ignored. To name two such politicians who have embraced Twitter whole heartedly - Narender Modi and
Shashi Tharoor - and Modi is quite popular in
India but not to the point of being recognized in the world stage.
