A B BARDHAN, general secretary of Communist Party of India (CPI), in Guwahati, urged the Union government to start the process of unconditional dialogue with the insurgent outfit United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA).
Bardhan proposed to call on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and urge him to start the process of dialogue with the ULFA.
The veteran leader urged the government to hold talks without any precondition with the ULFA and said that there are some ground realities behind formation of the ULFA and over the past 32 years every means was adopted to suppress the insurgent activities but experience showed that insurgency could not be suppressed at the point of the gun and said that once the dialogue process starts then other issues could be discussed.
Bardhan expressed concern over corruption and misuse of funds meant for development of Autonomous Council of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao Hill district. He demanded that individuals must be immediately brought to book, involved in the scam.
