IN A major setback to millions of cricket lovers across the country, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said it will not send cricket team to participate in the forthcoming Asian Games scheduled to be held in Guangzhou, China in November this year.

Entertaining Twenty20 cricket format is making its debut this year in the Asian Games. Twenty20 format was recently given go-ahead during the Olympic Council of Asia's General Assembly meeting in Kuwait.

Speaking to reporters in Mumbai, BCCI chief administrative officer Ratnakar Shetty said “We would not be able to send our team, both men and women, for the Asian Games in China because of international commitments". BCCI’s decision has sent off beam signals to many of its detractors, according to whom it is a money spinning machine and focus more on money than sports. It is often criticised for curbing the importance of other games.
