Be extra cautious before marrying off daughters to NRIs
Parents should enquire from embassies and see for themselves before marrying off their daughters to NRIs. In some of the recent cases, few NRIs who got married here had children from other wives at their places of residence in foreign countries. Such cases should serve as eye-openers.

IT HAS become a trend to get the daughter married off to NRIs but several shocking cases have made the entire story alarming. Such marriages are most common in the north-Indian states like Punjab and capital New Delhi.

NRIs from UK, US and Canada visit their hometowns after years with a glorified image but in reality, as has been found in some cases, it is just a show off. They will visit and stay in 5-star hotels, travel in hired cabs, throw lavish parties etc to attract the parents of girls. Lastly they would demand to get married within couple of days, pretending to be busy with their business deals and new ventures, which most of the times is a cooked-up story.

In some cases, it has been shockingly found that Bridegrooms were not only married but even had few children as well. A height of cheating, isn’t it? While unfortunately, newly-wed brides have been forced into prostitution as well.

In a recent surprising case, a bride, forced to the wall, tried to move out of the country with a forged passport to reach her husband who never cared for her, after the marriage. The bridegroom had reportedly lingered her on with the promise of false visa and passport.

These cases should serve as eye-openers for parents and they should take extra precautions before marrying off their most precautious jewel of their life to such beasts. Proper investigation from the Indian embassies should be sought regarding character, profession, and business of these prospective NRI’s.

Just marrying a visiting NRI whose relations in the country are known to the parents is not enough. The India-based relative of an NRI may be widely respected here but who knows how his son, cousin or a nephew has the same character. He may be involved in any criminal activity that his father or cousin has never thought of. Last but not the least; a thorough investigation is a must.
