Beckham signs for PSG, will donate his salary to charity
The last day of January transfers on January 31 2013 witnessed a number of deals taking place in European leagues all over Europe. But, it was David Beckham who bagged the headlines for his transfer to Paris-Saint Germain for the remainder of the season. He has signed a five-month deal with the French club. Other deals, which took place on the final day of the transfer window, were Christopher Samba's signing for QPR, Danny Graham signing for Sunderland in £5m deal among a host of other deals.

This move of David Beckham was not an expected one as there were a number of other clubs, which were interested in acquiring his services. Some Australian clubs along with Chinese clubs were rumoured to be interested in signing the player. He is also said to have received offers from EPL clubs, which he rejected. The former England star decided to join the cash-rich French team, which is being coached by Carlo Ancelotti. Beckham has from the past played for top European clubs, such as Real Madrid, AC Milan, Manchester United, so the club he has signed for five months is also big name not only in French football, but also world football.

With a number of aged players making a move to various clubs for money, many claim that the player also must have been lured by money. But, it does not seem so, as the player has decided to donate his salary to a children’s charity in Paris. It has been reported by BBC that the player would be donating his salary, at least £1m to charity.  The player has also made it clear that he has joined the club not for financial reasons.

But with a host number of star players that is available to Ancelotti, it is not guaranteed that the player would be playing regular football for the club. One also has to understand that the player is at the fag-end of his career as he is aged 37 years. If the club would not be reaping major benefits from his presence on the pitch, but his jersey sale is expected to be a huge revenue generator for the club owing to his huge fan data base.

With the deal already struck and the club officially announcing him as a PSG player, the player needs to get back to full fitness, if he is asked to play on a regular basis for PSG. The club presently lie on the top of the French Ligue 1 standings closely followed by Lyon in second place. PSG would also expect Beckham to help and guide youngsters in the team as well, as he has a rich haul of experience playing competitive football for around two decades now.
