WE HAVE heard many a times from experts all over the world stating that Apple is one of the best fruits, and has a number of healthy benefits attached to it. A study that had been conducted recently by Zhen-Yu Chen and colleagues from the Chinese University of Hong Kong has found that an Apple plays a very important role in increasing one’s life span. This report had been published in Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, as reported by IANS.
According to the study, Apple contains anti-oxidants, which to some extent slows down the process of ageing, thus increasing the life span by 10%. From their research they were also able to establish that it also helps in reducing heart diseases, which is considered to be a major problem in most of the countries.
The researchers also said that fruits and vegetables, which are bright in colour such as Apples, tomatoes, and broccoli, are good for health, as it contains antioxidants. But, the same cannot be held true in some countries like India, where these fruits and vegetables are sometimes polished with wax and sometimes chemicals are also used to make them look more attractive and bright.
It is not for the first time that research has come to the forefront stating the benefits of an Apple. Once, some French researchers also had found out that Apple contains a flavanoid called phloridzin, which protects women from Osteoporosis and also increases the bone density. Another study suggests that a child born to a mother who ate number of Apples during her pregnancy period, have a comparatively lower rate of Asthma problem than other children, whose mother did not eat many apples.
