IN A gruesome incident, a jail warden from West Bengal was bludgeoned to death by people of a village in Bihar. The villagers took him to be a thief.
Shiv Singh (52) was posted as jail warden in West Bengal’s Purulia district contiguous to Bihar. He was suffering from schizophrenia. He was mistaken to be a thief and was beaten to death in the wee hours on May 2 (Friday), Vijay Kumar, the station house officer (SHO), Ribilganj police station, told the local media. Four days ago, Singh left his house in Bajrai village in Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh. He was sauntering along the lanes and by-lanes at late night when villagers came across him. Thinking he was a thief, the villagers did not even bother to question him but started assaulting him. They dumped his body outside the emergency ward of a hospital.
