Bengaluru to host national seminar on child protection issues
A one-day national seminar on 'Child Protection in India: Empowering Mental Health Professionals' is going to be organized on 19th November at Christ University in Bengaluru.

Coinciding with the International Day for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect, the seminar aims at motivating and sensitizing mental health professionals and students to child protection and safety, developing professional teams for child protection, and to serve as a platform for evaluating the current policies, programmes and practices.

Besides presentation of research paper on the theme of seminar, it would provide a platform to share and document best practices by NGOs and professionals in the field of child protection by researchers, field workers from NGOs, functionaries in civil societies and health professionals.

According to the organizers of the conference, in India, a lot of children are at risk of disability, maltreatment and abuse, there is need to speak on behalf of children and protect their rights. There is need to protect children from their rampant abuse which seems to have become deep-rooted social and cultural problem.

Many feel that even in schools, there a good deal of mental and physical violence on children and more so in rural primary schools. There is a need to protect children there too and some NGOs are working as watchdogs on schools so that children's rights are not violated.
