Berlin Film Festival 2017: Rajkummar Rao starer NEWTON gets a warm reception
Drishyam Films' next, Newton directed by Amit V Masurkar made its World Premiere to a highly appreciative audience in a houseful theatre at the ongoing Berlin International Film Festival 2017.
The film selected in the 'International Forum of New Cinema' had its premiere screening on February 10th at the Zoo Palast, one of the oldest and most prestigious venues of the Berlinale. The film received a standing ovation from the very warm Berlinale audience, with a long and engaging Q and A post the screening.

The cast Rajkummar Rao, Anjali Patil, Pankaj Tripathi, producer Manish Mundra and music composer Naren Chandavarkar were all present at the red carpet screening of the film.

Newton is Amit V Masurkar's second film after the sleeper hit Sulemani Keeda in 2014. The film produced by Manish Mundra is being screened in the 'International Forum of New Cinema', considered the most daring section of the Berlinale and credited for showcasing the most promising new voices in international cinema.
Newton was part of the Co-Production Market (CPM) at Film Bazaar 2015 and also one of the Film Bazaar Recommends titles at Film Bazaar 2016.

Rajkummar Rao, who plays the title role of Newton, said "I was excited and nervous before the premiere but the kind of response we got after the screening and the way the audience here related to Newton, was very overwhelming. The warm appreciation by the Berlinale crowd left me humbled. I am elated by what we have achieved with this film already. Now, I am just waiting for my home audience to watch it."

Delighted with a successful World Premiere, the director and co-writer, Amit V Masurkar says, "We were all very happy that an audience so diverse connected to an Indian story so rooted. They appreciated the finer nuances and the subtle moments in the story which we had assumed only Indians would get."

Founder of Drishyam Films and the producer of Newton, Manish Mundra said, "It was heartwarming to see how the audience connected with Newton and even understood the subtext. Being a black comedy, hearing the audience's laughter at all the right moments was a complete joy. We had a houseful premiere screening and the rest of the four shows are already sold out. We are now gearing up to ride this wave of appreciation till our Indian theatrical release."

Newton, starring Rajkummar Rao in the title role is a sharp political black comedy that takes place on an election day in Central India.

Rajkummar Rao, whose star is on the rise following strong, highly appreciated performances in films like Aligarh and Queen, plays Newton, a rookie clerk on election duty in a conflict-ridden jungle of Chhattisgar, who tries his best to conduct free and fair voting despite the apathy of security forces and the looming fear of an attack by Maoist rebels.
