Bhandara turns into a tragedy in Kunda
The devotees, who arrived from the near by places to seek blessings from Kripalu Maharaj and then to have Prasad in the Bhandara rose dramatically in just a few hours from mere few hundred to over 25,000.
MAN PROPOSES and God disposes. Certainly man thinks one way and the destiny turns it to the other side. So can we call it a tragedy, an unfortunate incident or should we call it a disaster which struck at a Bhandara? A gathering was organized by the followers of Sri Kripalu Maharaj at his ashram in Kunda town of district Pratapgarh in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday. It is learnt that about 25,000 devotees of Kripalu Maharaj assembled at the unfortunate venue to have a feast which can only be accessed by a narrow lane. As the number of devotees who arrived from the near by places to seek blessings from Kripalu Maharaj and then to have Prasad in the Bhandara, rose dramatically in just a few hours from mere few hundred to over 25,000, there was no one to control the crowd who went berserk after one of the gates collapsed and trapped some people beneath it.
This was followed by some confusion and panic which gripped the devotees, who tried to make their way out in a hurry which resulted in a stampede. Now the other thing which was missing from the list of arrangements was an ambulance and medical assistance which should have been there from the administration side, thinking about such a huge gathering. Now should it not be considered as a serious lapse on the part of district administration which failed to visualize that in case of any mishap what they would be doing to handle any such a situation?
Whenever any religious congregation or mass assembly of people takes place, the organizers have to inform the district authorities in prior about the event and subsequently permission has to be obtained for carrying out any such event which could result in some law and order problem. Now, the big question arises whether any such permission was granted to the organizers of Kriplau Maharaj to hold a Bhandara on such a large scale? And if so, then what arrangements did the district authorities make in order to ensure the safety of people coming to attend such an event?
It has been seen time and again that negligence on part of the district authorities has led to many such tragedies and who can forget the fire tragedy that broke out in an exhibition in Meerut few years back following gross mismanagement on part of the district authorities. Moreover all people responsible for such disasters go unpunished. We can only hope the victims get justice in this case.
