IN WHAT could be titled as a unique alliance, all non- Congress parties came together and joined hands calling for a nationwide “bandh”. The strike was called as a protest against the rising oil prices. Life in major metros like Mumbai and new Delhi has been put on hold.
States like West Bengal, Kerala and other BJP led states have also joined the march. As per early reports, the situation has escalated and paralysed all these parts in the country. Taking a stand on the spiraling prices, Finance Minister, Pranab Mukherjee said that the move is “cheap and opportunistic at the cost of nation”.
The nationwide strike has disrupted the rail and air services and there are hardly any private vehicles plying on the roads. Local trains in Mumbai are running on time although there have been minor disruptions in the services. Over 40,000 police personnels have been deployed in the city. The police has already said that any person or any political party that will cause harm to the public property will be made to pay accordingly.NEW DELHI The city's new mode of transportation suffered a blow when angry protesters blocked Karol Bagh metro station and Rajiv Chowk metro station in Connought Place. Movement in New Delhi railway station is normal and so is at Indira Gandhi Airport. The city's inter state bus transit depot, Anand Vihar is blocked by the protesters. ANDHRA PRADESH President Pratibha Patil is attending a program in Hyderabad and the place has been converted into a fortress so as to ensure maximum safety. With Telugu Desam Party's support for the bandh, local road transportation buses are plying as per schedule although four buses have been damaged. Other areas, where the bandh has been a hard hitting blow for the service class people are Lucknow, Bihar, Tamil Nadu and Left led states. Train and local services are next to nil. In many parts, passengers are stranded in railway stations. Top officials have said that an Emergency services will not be disrupted even though L.K Advani has appealed to all NDA and participating members to conduct the strike peacefully.

It is real pity that we had freedom from the Briitish for such onsense where the freedom of movement and living is forcefully stopped in the name of Bandh, paralysing the daily life of the public against their wishes for political gains. This is more of a menance in Kerala where the shameless and currupt politicians are worse than the most dreaded bandits who have the freedon to use the police forces and other institutions for their gain, and land grabbing also. The great freedon fighters of India would be weeping in pain that they had done a great mistake fighting for senseless and irresponsible successors,
