BIG TV set to redefine retail sales in the DTH space
Reliance Communications' DTH service provider, BIG TV, has come with a revolutionary idea for selling its recharge coupons across India. The company has put together India's largest network of shops and company stores for sale of recharge coupons
BIG TV is all set to redefine the way recharge vouchers (RCVs) for direct-to-home (DTH) services will be retailed in India. BIG TV has put into place a network of close to 75,000 outlets spread over 10,000 towns, including outlets like local grocery stores, gift stores and utility stores. The company has taken the route adopted by the telecom players to retail RCVs for pre-paid mobile connections. Retail outlets of almost every genre are being roped in to ensure maximum penetration and easy accessibility for customers. Karnataka has a network of over 6120 retail outlets for RCV’s.

The existing network of 100,000 retailers, 250 Reliance web worlds, 219 Reliance mobile stores and 40,000-odd telecom outlets, which are sales points for the BIG TV DTH service will also stock the RCVs. Apart from this, the options of recharging online or through the mobile phone are also being explored.

“The biggest hurdle in the growth of the DTH services in India was the accessibility. We changed the paradigm when we launched across 6,500 towns with 100,000 retail outlets, which ensured easy access for customers and we clocked record-breaking sales. Our endeavour is to get as close as possible to our customer’s doorstep with the RCVs”, said Mahesh Prasad, president, application services group, Reliance Communications.

BIG TV DTH service, launched on August 19, 2008, was one of India’s largest retail roll-out of a home entertainment product and service. BIG TV, since then, has grown rapidly and has captured over 750,000 subscribers in just about three months to emerge as the fastest growing DTH service in India.
BIG TV’s launch offer included a three-month free subscription to their premium pack. The 50,000 customers who subscribed to BIG TV in the month of August will soon reach the end of their free subscription period and will need to buy recharge vouchers for their monthly subscriptions.

BIG TV has six monthly subscription packages, ranging from Rs 100 to Rs 400, eight regional language channel packs at Rs 30 each per month and 12 top-up packs across the News, sports, kids , films, lifestyles, entertainment genres ranging from Rs 25 to Rs 40 per month.

While this entire network is in place, it has been heard that BIG TV is also exploring the options of recharging via the Internet and mobile phones making it easier for the customer.
