According to Vigilance Bureau's Bihar statistics, out of 365 arrested government servants 300 had assets and running into crores. What is surprising is that only two who were petty clerks have lost their job. All big fishes are safe in the pond.
CORRUPTION IS one of the biggest challenges our economy is confronting and it is one menace which has over the years grown by leaps and bounds and showing no sign of decline. Owing to this menace, a poor is becoming poorer and those enjoying the power of politics and administration are filling their personal coffers plundering government money meant for development and becoming richer.
Recently we purchased 200 tons of gold from International Monetary Fund (IMF) to balance our foreign exchange reserves, costing 6.7 billion dollar. This shows there is no dearth of money in the country then why millions of countrymen are living below poverty line? Even natural and man made resources are abundant but why we are still around Bhutan, Bangladesh and Nepal in human development index? Government policies have always been wonderful but the fruits don’t reach up to the deserving common man. Do you know why? It is the nexus between executives (politicians) and administration (government servants) that is looting government money and using their authority to help their acquaintances in getting government jobs and plum tenders.
In the last four years only charge sheets were lodged against 1228 government servants, these include 596 gazetted and 632 non-gazetted in Bihar, in addition to 302 others. These government servants are booked for misusing their post and accepting bribe. According to Vigilance Bureau’s Bihar statistics, out of 365 arrested government servants 300 had assets and running into crores. What is surprising is that only two have lost their job and they too were petty clerks. All big fishes are safe in the pond using their political connection and clout perfectly.
When asked why so many corrupt officials in Bihar are enjoying government position, an official from the vigilance department said “The Vigilance Bureau has no role in the dismissal of government servants arrested on the corruption charge, our job is to arrest them, file FIRs, investigate and submit charge sheets and put them on trial.”
Why Bihar and Uttar Pradesh are way behind many other states in development? Why youths migrate from these states and attract the ire of people playing divisive politics-Raj Thackeray and Bal Thackeray? Government should take stringent steps to check this black blot otherwise it will be too late.
