THE BATTLE for supremacy is on between Nitish Kumar and Lalu Prasad Yadav in Bihar. Who will get to rule the roost in Bihar will be judged over in a six phase elections which will be conducted in the state starting from October 21.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of India, S Y Qureshi announced the dates of the Bihar election on Monday. The results of the election will be announced on November 24 and the fate of Bihar will be decided on this day. The six-phase election will take place on October 21 (47 assembly constituencies), October 24 (45 constituencies), October 28 (48), November 1 (42), November 9 (35) and November 20 (26). In all, Bihar has 56,943 polling stations. After the death of independent MP Digvijay Singh, byelections in Banka parliamentary constituency will be held on November 1.
After announcing the Bihar Assembly poll roster, the CEC said that elections will be conducted through Electronic Voting Machines (EVM's) to ensure safe and sound voting. As the demand for EVM's rose considerably against ballot papers, this will be for the first time, the EC planned two stage categorisation of these machines which will prove that they cannot be manipulated with.Meanwhile, the political scene is Bihar is hotting up as the election days come close. Now, it remains to be seen whether the development claims by Nitish Kumar led government or the influence of Lalu Prasad Yadav over Bihar catches the fancy of Bihar electorate. Chances of Lalu Yadav failing to dislodge his arch foe Nitish are high but politics is the art of impossible and here the former has shown many a times that he is an uncanny political artist. Lalu-generally regarded as the messiah of the backward and the minority community will need to conjure all his magic to come back to power. What matters most is, will Lalu be able to rekindle his charm and win back his share of the sizeable portion of Muslim and Yadav voters?
