PRINCIPAL SECRETARY to the Chief Minister of Orissa, Bijay Kumar Patnaik was appointed as the new Chief Secretary of Orissa on Tuesday. Bijay Kumar Patnaik took over from Tarinikanta Misra, who retired from service on attaining the age of Superannuation.
The Chief Minister Nabin Patnaik signed the file for his appointment putting an end to the intense lobbying by some senior IAS officers for the top post. An IAS officer of 1976 batch, Patnaik was the Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister for the last six years. Patnaik started his career as Sub-divisional Officer, Rayagada of the then undivided Koraput district. He served as the last Administrative Officer in the Hindustan Aeronautic Limited (HAL), Sunabeda and solved the problems of giving preference for the appointment of local people. Patnaik has held most important posts in the state. He has also handled other key assignments in the Government including Secretary in the Water Resource Department.
A Secretary level meeting was also convened on Tuesday where the out going Chief Secretary was praised by several colleagues.
