Bilal Nazki appointed Chief Justice Orissa High Court
Justice Bilal Nazki has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court. Prior to this appointment, he has been a judge at Bombay, Andhra Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir High Courts.
JUSTICE BILAL NAZKI, senior most judge of the Bombay High Court has been elevated and appointed as the new Chief Justice of Orissa High Court. Justice Nazki, who belongs to Jammu and Kashmir, has a rich experience as a practising lawyer and being the Judge of three high courts. He has served as judge in Jammu and Kashmir High Court, Andhra Pradesh High Court and Bombay High Court.
Born on November 18, 1947 at Srinagar, he obtained his law degree from Aligarh Muslim University in 1973 and joined the Bar at Srinagar. He practised in the high court as well as in the subordinate courts on original and appellate sides. He also appeared before the Supreme Court. He also worked as the Legal Advisor to various state government undertakings. He became the Deputy Advocate General of Jammu and Kashmir in 1986, for some time and was also the Advocate General from 1992 onwards. Elevated as an Additional Judge of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court on January 6, 1995. Apart from this, he served as a member of the Delimitation Commission constituted under Jammu and Kashmir Representation of Peoples Act for the purpose of delimiting assembly constituencies in the state. He became the permanent Judge here from December 11, 1995 and was transferred two years later to serve in the Andhra Pradesh High Court. While here, he worked as the president of Andhra Pradesh, state judicial academy on two occasions and also the Chairman of Andhra Pradesh High Court Legal Services Committee. He also became the Chancellor of National Academy of Legal Studies and Research University (NALSAR) as well as the executive chairman of the state's legal services authority. An year ago, he assumed charge of a Judge of Bombay High Court.
