Bilal Nazki appointed Orissa CJ for three days!
It seems that only to make him eligible as chairperson of Jammu and Kashmir State Human Rights Commission, Justice Bilal Nazki was appointed as Orissa chief justice for three days before his retirement at age of 62 years.
IT REFERS to Justice Bilal Nazki appointed as Orissa chief justice just for three days before his retirement at age of 62 years just to make him eligible as chairperson of Jammu and Kashmir State Human Rights Commission. Move will impose an additional burden of Rs 75 lakh for Orissa because of retirement-benefits to be given to retired Chief Justice Bilal Nazki of the state.

Already nation is without any chairperson for its National Human Rights Commission only because two eligible retired Chief Justices of India are somehow not being appointed for the important post. A writ petition on the aspect is already pending at Delhi High Court.

Union government should take urgent legislative measures for reform:
  • Retired Supreme Court judges should be eligible for National Human Right Commission, while retired High Court judges may be eligible for State human Rights Commissions.
  • Only those persons should be appointed at judiciary who may be able to serve at least for one year before retirement.
  • Retirement benefits of judges should be at par with chief justice.
  • Retirement-age of high court judges should be 62 years to be at par with that of Supreme Court judges.
  • Chief Justice of India should be by rotation for one year each from senior-most judges.

.Why is this gentleman posting duplicate posts within 24 hours just changing the heading of the article ?? Is it so that no one sees the comments in the previous article. Just go to his home page and see the duplicate post.
.With regard to the Human Rights Commission rumour please verify your facts before shameless mudslinging Mr. Subhash Chandra. 1. The Human Rights Commission in J&K has already got a chairman for next 4 years.2. As per the constitution of J&K state, there is no requirement for the chairman of the SHRC to be a retired CJ. The current incumbent of the position, for your information, is a retired HC judge and the former was a retired District Judge.3. Justice Nazki is not interested in becoming the Chairman of the SHRC.I do agree with you that the decision makers must act judiciously, however that is a separate debate beyond the scope of this forum. It is shameful to write what you have written. I suggest you dig deeper and verify facts before rumour-mongering. The proposal for his becoming CJ came at least 4 months back and even media had reported it. Please dont blame the incumbent for the wrongs done by the system.
